tender mercies in Richmond

The coolest story: we met a less active on the street, we actually tried to contact her.  She was like "I am actually a member from your church...." awkward.  So we make a mental note to visit her this week and we didn't get a chance too.  SUNDAY SHE SHOWS UP TO CHURCH.  ON HER OWN.  She was like "you sisters were so sweet to me and I could feel how much you loved me even though you didn't know me and I know I need to be here so I came." WOW.  She has been inactive for four years.  Relatable much? YES. :) AH, so awesome!

much love,
sister hannah

The Color Yellow.

This week was a yellow week!!  One of those feel good, spirits up, bright and sunny, just an incredible week.  I am so incredibly blessed by my Father in Heaven.  I feel an overwhelming abundance of love towards, for and from Him.  He is so aware of me... and not only me, but each and EVERY ONE of His children. INCLUDING YOU.  YES YOU.

This week we saw more miracles.  Sister Jones and I are LOVING this warm weather and missionary work seems to too! I can't believe all the miracles we have seen... seriously.  By Thursday we had picked up 5 people who wanted to sincerely learn more about the church.  They are all incredible people too! The Lord is placing people in our path who are ready and humble enough to hear and ACCEPT the gospel!! :) AH I LOVE IT! :)

Taylor. She is awesome. We met her while I was on exchanges with Sister Ward. She was super nice and we got her number, but nothing came of it.  Last week we were walking home from EKU and ran into her on the sidewalk... not a coincidence! (exchanges are when the companionship splits up for 24 hours and we have a temp companion who is one of our leaders train us.  We then switch back!) We taught her the first lesson this week and she was asking the most incredible questions. She loved the Book of Mormon and the spirit was incredible strong. She was asking things like "I have always believed there are prophets so is the Book of Mormon how we know there is one?" YES! She asked that! It was incredible! She left our appointment with the desire to pray about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith! She is so prepared and so humble! :) She is the sweetest thing and we look forward to continue working with her!

Blake. Blake was an interesting sequence of events. I was prompted last week to take a different route to a lesson and we ended up being placed right in his path. (Coincidence, yeah, I think not.. I don't believe in those anymore. I believe in God.) He was skateboarding by the courthouse and we stopped him, introduced ourselves and then actually set up a return appointment with him for within the next few hours. The first interaction went really well. He understood why we are here and what we are doing. So we set up another appointment with him and it went way better than Sister Jones and I could have ever expected. It was completely spirit led. It was humbling. Blake is prepared. He had already read the Restoration pamphlet and understood most of it. We went over it and further explained the priesthood. When it came time to recite the restoration, He felt the spirit so strongly. Never had I ever experienced a lesson in a public place like this (the student center on EKU campus, it is usually loud :/) and the spirit be so strong.

When he looked up, we asked him how it made him feel and he looked at us dumbfounded because his eyes were filled with tears and he was filled with joy and love. Sister Jones felt impressed to ask him "has this message answered any of your prayers?" and he said "yes, I have been praying for my life to get better and I think this is the answer." HOW AWESOME!!! We were so pleased with this lesson and strive to have every lesson to be like this one-  spirit led!!!!! Pray for BLAKE!! :)

The YELLOW revelation. So yesterday we came in for dinner and were planning on doing some training also. Sister Jones had the strong impression that we needed to go back out ASAP. I looked at her and said "OK, let's go!" We prayed before we left and the color yellow popped into our head. Our map is color coded so we can organize people and places better. The yellow zone on our map is not safe to go in after dark. It is not lit, filled with drugs and just very unsettling. I looked at Sister Jones like she was crazy. I wasn't about to go to the yellow zone!!! Well, we start walking, literally we are 100 steps from out front door, and across the street from us is a yellow house. Just so happens there was a young man sitting outside and we were able to share with him the Because He Lives video, set a return appointment and share our message with him. Sometimes revelation isn't always what it seems! FOLLOW PROMPTINGS!!!

I also met Jehovah's witnesses this week.  They were incredibly nice and opened my eyes to their religion.  I have had many misconceptions about JW's and these two sweet women helped me understand better.  It made me think about the people who have misconceptions of our religion and how it is confusing sometimes.  Luckily, that is why there are missionaries!! We laughed over the fact that we always get confused for each other.

These are just the highlight miracles! There are always more, but I cannot type fast enough or have enough time to write them all! I seriously wish I could just wear a go-pro and send home the footage!

THIS WORK IS JOYOUS!  The joy I feel when I share the gospel is unexplainable.  It is so incredible.  It is what needs to be happening.  Member missionary work is important too! Don't forget that! I LOVE THE WORK.  I LOVE MY SAVIOR.

Stay Rad. Stay Righteous.

Happy Easter! :) Take some time to reflect on the Atonement of Jesus Christ this week.  It is the most powerful thing! :)

I LOVE YOU ALL!
much love,
Sister Hannah

Welcome to Spring!

The miracles keep rolling in in Richmond, KY! Sister Jones and I are loving every second of this warm weather before it gets too humid!

Here are some highlights from yet another MIRACLE WEEK!

-We finally got a hold of and were able to teach our investigator, Jill.  We walked in and she started asking golden questions (ie, where did I come from, where am I going?) We had the coolest spirit led lesson.  The spirit was so incredibly strong and the answers she received were powerful! She felt the spirit and was humbled when she said the closing prayer!

-We found a new investigator, Avery! She is awesome!! The adversary definitely doesn't want us to meet with her and is doing EVERYTHING in his stinking power to make it not happen.  Well satan, jokes on YOU, because we did meet with her, read the Book of Mormon with her AND told her a little bit about the word of wisdom.  SHE ate it up.  Understood the first chapter in the Book of Mormon, applied it to herself without us even helping and asked if she could get baptized.  I felt prompted to tell her we don't believe in smoking too and she immediately picked up her last box of cigarettes, crushed them up and threw them away! "Oh good, I needed a reason to quit anyway!" WHAT?! IT is incredible!! :) Happy happy day!

-We had a day with solid booked appointments.  One every hour.  NONE of them fell through! NONE! And we were on time to all of them! #BikePower #BestLegsintheMission

-We were able to have interviews with President Brough! He is the coolest most loving mission president! :) I love getting to see him!!

-We were able to attend the baptism of Michael and Christopher, Kathy's children.  THIS WAS INCREDIBLE because I was able to be here for every single family members baptism! They are all now members of the one and only true church! It is such a blessing to see them ALL come unto Christ! :) They are so awesome and can't wait to get to the temple! :)

-We got checked out by a total of 11 men on Friday, 10 of them were black.  It was hilarious.  We met a black biker gang and they filmed us as we a) shut down 4 of them as they hit on us (to start) b) shared the book of Mormon with them and then c) shut them all down again as we shook their hands to leave instead of giving hugs.  {So look for us! We could go viral!}  It was hilarious. To top it off, their names were: Bolt, Cali Boy, Show off and Wolf.  Yes, true Story.  That day we also met Cowboy on the side of the street and he was just chillin playing his guitar and enjoying the spring weather.  He played a song about Jesus for us and then we headed on our way.  The people you meet when it is warm outside!

Kentucky is AWESOME. I am so lucky and blessed to be here!! Attached is a typical Kentucky setting! IT is GORGEOUS!! The work is wonderful; the people are so sweet!

stay rad
stay righteous
Hearken to it and DO IT!!

Loving the work!

Much Love,
Sister Hannah

HEY!

Man, I love Mondays! They are the "day off" but there is really so much to do... it is crazy sauce!
I haven't gotten your letter yet, but if you sent it last week, it should be coming in soon!! I have been on the lookout for it all week!

WAIT WHAT NOW?! Dennis!! Why the heck are you so stressed?!! Shingles SUCKS.  My grandma Hannah had it and it was awful.   I also heard from Mom you will be there in April! :) I am so glad you are utilizing my family! We have extra rooms now that I am missing! LOL.  I think Jeff has even moved downstairs/...so I hgave absolutely NO IDEA what the current situation is.  PS, I can't not worry when you tell me you have shingles ya crazy.  THat is serious stuff!!

I am doing amazing.  MIRACLES ON MIRACLES this week.  AGAIN.  IT IS AWESOME.  SO MANY tender mercies and just absolutely incredible experiences.  I wish I could just scan in my journal and send it out... that would be ideal.  The weather has been AWESOME and I celebrated my two months! I can't believe is has been a whole EIGHT weeks in the field.  It still doesn't feel real.  Just the other day I had a realization that "yes I am a missionary. My nametag is still real!" and there are currently two sister Hannah's because sisster Jones lost her nametag.  It is quite hilarious when people look at us.  We work SO well together.  Honestly, the last two weeks have been so incredible we are both just waiting for the crash and burn.  I know it won't happen as long as we are obedient and stay righteous! Look for my group email to read up on all the miracles and awesome stories! I had an awesome experience at a baptism that will be in it!

STAY HEALTHY OK!! I haven't gotten poictures in a while either.... what is up with that? No more slefie king?

much love,
Sister MAdeline Hannah

HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

How was your week? DID YOU GET MY LETTER??? I hope you did :)

So, needless to say, these past few weeks have probably been some of the most stressful weeks of my life. Like no joke, I have developed a case of shingles because of it!!!! Don't worry I'm headed to the doctor on the 26th! It burns and I hate it... Such is life lol.

In any case, things are getting better and picking up :) so no need to worry!! Haha

How are things going on your end? Are you loving your companion? Remember most of your teaching is effective when you guys are united!!

I hope all is well dear :)

I love you!

I survived the first transfer!!!

This week was week 6.  The final week of my very first transfer!! I am pleased to tell you all that I survived my very first transfer as Sister Hannah!! It was a great transfer that consisted of a lot of chocolate, a couple baptisms and lots of growth.  Overall, it was a great transfer though!! Tomorrow I will be saying goodbye to Sister Heiner and getting a new companion. Crazy!!

Highlights from this week:
-I am sure you all saw the video of me on facebook... trying to shake the ping pong balls out of the tissue box.  That is how I started my week!! Sister Bryner had us test out minute to win it games and I enjoyed myself a little bit too much.  SIster HEiner ended up winning, but we all had a good laugh.  Worked off my dinner before I ate it.
-We had a lot of incredible lessons this week!! One of them was in Sister Christensen's home by a fluke- we can't park on EKU cmpus- and it was an incredible lesson about the temple and the plan of salvation!! Katie, our investigator, is so solid and continues to let her testimony grow!!
-I had 'real' american chinese food!! More of what I am used to at least.  I don't know why I ever trusted Rexburg to have good chinese food.. .or the shady shack on main, but I finally got some decent chinese food.  Thank you so much Brother Minerich!! You made my day! :)
-We taught Kathy, Carmel and Angeline a lesson on the priesthood.  IT was INCREDIBLE.  We were able to bring Patriarch and Sister MArchant with us and it was SO POWERFUL to have Brother Marchant testify of the priesthood to them.  Many insights were gained and prayers were answered.  Angeline was given a blessing and in the blessing somethingwas said to the extent of 'your children are doing good.  They are well.'  Ruby, her daughter, had just recently passed away and the family was wondering if she was ok.  None of us (the missionaries or marchant's) knew of this conversation. Brother Marchant surely didn't know that they were struggling a lot.  The blessing was so sweet and tender.  The priesthood is real and the blessings are incredible!!!!!
-The next visit to Kathy's she taught us!! The lesson was absolutely INCREDIBLE!! HEr and Carmel did a wonderful job!!
-CARMEL AND ANGELINE GOT BAPTIZED!!!!! Even though we didn't teach them officially, they are KAthy's family so we were involved in the baptism!! We are so excited for them and the step that they have taken on their eternal journey!! It begins here!! :)

I LOVE RICHMOND.  I love being a missionary.  Some days I feel certain that I was born to be a missionary, other days I struggle.  The days where I struggle make the days that are good so much more glorious.  I love this work, it is real, it  is  incredible.

Always smile.

stay rad, stay righteous!!

much love!!
Sister Hannah
